National Programme for the Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE)


Operational guidelines of NPHCE can be downloaded from the web site of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare http://www.mohfw.nic.in  

1. To provide an easy access to promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the elderly through community based primary health care approach.

2. To identify health problems in the elderly and provide appropriate health interventions in the community with a strong referral backup support.

3. To build capacity of the medical and paramedical professionals as well as the care-takers within the family for providing health care to the elderly.

4. To provide referral services to the elderly patients through district hospitals, regional medical institutions.

The activities at State, Districts, CHC and Sub Centre level have been planned under the programme and will be closely monitored through NCD cell at state and district head quarter levels.

  • NPHCE is being implemented in district Ambala, Kurukshetra, Mewat & Yamuna Nagar.
  • NCD cum Geriatric Clinic were established and made functional in these CHs.
  • Green coloured OPD cards are being used for elderly in all CH of the state.
  • Separate queue for elderly at registration, pharmacy and lab counters.
  • Physiotherapy unit strengthened in CH Ambala & Kurukshetra.
  • New Physiotherapy unit have been set up in CH Yamuna Nagar & Mewat.
  • Physiotherapy units were also established and made functional in 16 CHC/SDHs of district Ambala, Kurukshetra, Mewat & Yamuna Nagar.
  • Public Awareness/IEC material developed and displayed in health institutions.
  • International day of older persons was observed on 1st October, 2015 for creating awareness among the public regarding health care of the elderly.
